At Henleaze Fish Bar, the focus is on delivering generous portions of freshly prepared seafood. The star of the show is undoubtedly their fish and chips. Each piece is cooked to order, ensuring that you enjoy a meal that's as fresh as possible. Customers rave about the large portions, making it easy to share (or indulge all on your own!). One satisfied customer, Jolyon Maud, shared his experience of enjoying a large fish and large chips accompanied by rich, thick gravy, declaring it “perfectly cooked” and impossible to finish for just one person—testament to the hearty servings!
The chips themselves are a mouthwatering marvel, expertly fried to a crisp exterior while remaining fluffy and soft on the inside. It's the perfect accompaniment to the fish, and together they create a symphony of textures and flavors that will leave your taste buds dancing. The gravy is a delightful bonus that adds another layer of flavor, and it’s clearly a favorite of many, elevating the entire meal experience.
First-time visitors and regulars alike leave Henleaze Fish Bar with smiles and full tummies, and a common thread in their reviews is the warmth of the staff. Lauren Davies notes how friendly the team is, although she humorously reminds patrons to bring cash, as it's a cash-only establishment. This personal touch is what makes the Henleaze experience all the more charming.
Moreover, the aesthetic of the takeaway is nothing short of splendid. With bright decorations, a clean presentation, and even a fish tank, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, making it a pleasure to visit. As one customer, Green Mind, remarked, the appearance alone helped change their initial skepticism into a glowing endorsement of the food and service.
In summary, Henleaze Fish Bar is not just a typical takeaway. It’s a culinary gem that captures the essence of traditional British cuisine, with a focus on quality, freshness, and service. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this spot should be on your must-visit list for an authentic taste of Bristol!

Walked from Clifton to try here this Friday lunchtime and was not disappointed........Ordered a large fish and large chips with gravy to share.................It was cooked to order in less than 10 minutes and was just perfectly cooked;. The batter was crispy, the fish so fresh and the chips really hit the spot and the two us couldn't manage the lot....The gravy was really thick and tasty too, Albie was most obliging, even placing the order on a handy carry out tray for us......The glass covered frontage eating area was very cosy on a zero degree day......... A few regulars came and went as we were enjoying....we'll be back too..........

They have a bad review on trip advisor that initially put me up ff a bit, but i was there so thought I'd just give them a chance and judge for myself, my first impression was really good, the restaurant area was clean and well presented with beautiful real flowers growing all around the area, lovely pictures of waterfalls and pictures of cartoon style fish, also a fish tank in the corner with some well looked after fish inside. Was greeted by a very friendly gentleman, I ordered myself some fish and chips. Wasn't a long wait at all, although I'm never in a rush and appreciate when more time is taken to get a better product. Although I must say that the chips were very nice, not greasy at all and obviously fresh, same for the fish, was very tasty fish and really nicely battered. I had absolutely nothing to complain about and I highly recommend that people do give the place a go and try not to look into someones bad reviews on trip advisor, they are obviously not very great themselves making horrible comments, we are all just human. So I hope more people ignore these bad reviews as I did and I'm pretty sure you will be leaving some positive ones. The gentleman behind the bar was very polite and very professional in my eyes.
